Sub Panel Installation & Upgrades in San Ramon, Danville, Walnut Creek & the East Bay

Crow Canyon Electric installs and upgrades sub panels in San Ramon, Danville, Blackhawk, Walnut Creek, Berkeley, Oakland, Alameda, Livermore, Pleasanton and Fremont. A sub panel adds breaker space close to where the power is needed, such as a garage, ADU, shop or addition, when the main panel is full or far away.

The work

Sub Panel Upgrades done properly, start to finish

A sub panel is a second breaker panel fed from the main one. It puts circuits where you need them without running every wire back to the main panel. It is a common answer for a converted garage, a detached workshop, a backyard ADU or a room addition.

The size of the sub panel, the feeder wire and the main breaker feeding it all have to match what the main panel can actually supply. We check that first, then run the feeder, mount the panel and label every circuit. If the main panel cannot carry the extra load, we will tell you and offer a main panel upgrade.

If your main panel has enough capacity but no room or is far from the new load, a sub panel is usually simpler. If the main service is maxed out, a main panel upgrade is the better fix.

It depends on the sub panel size, the feeder length and conduit route, the main panel’s capacity and permit requirements. We quote after a look at the main panel and the new location. Call (510) 650-9113 for a quote.

Sub panels come with different numbers of breaker spaces. We size one for what you need now plus spare room, as long as the main panel can supply the load.

Often yes. A garage sub panel puts breaker space where the power is needed. We check the main panel’s capacity first.

If the main panel has enough capacity but is far away or full, a sub panel at the ADU is usually the answer. If the whole service is maxed out, a main panel upgrade comes first. We calculate both before recommending one.
